Today I interned for an Optometrist for the first time.
I wish Dr. Suzuki was my optometrist, too bad I don't need one. She calls everyone "Gurrrrl" in that ghetto way and occasionally says "What a bitch!" during conversations with patients.
Other than that, shadowing is perhaps the most mind numbing activity ever. Between spouts of seeing something really cool in ppl's eyes, I have to stand around for long periods of time pretending to look busy. I'm not trained to handle insurance procedures, handle equiptment, or read patient charts, hence I'm not allowed to do anything until someone with spare time can train me. Oh yes, I met the CEO of the California Optometric Association - she was getting her eyes checked. Honestly, I think most of these women become optometrists purely so they can chat for an hour with their friends, which is something I look forward to doing.
