Wow. 2 employers offered me an interview next week.

I'm turning down the Biology tutoring job cuz this process takes forever to just start working. I'm tired of taking tests, and not passing them, going thru demonstration interviews, and somehow winning the recruiters' hearts so that they still want me. If I'm not qualified than I don't think I should be teaching. That's gonna take a lot of effort on my part to constantly know more information than regular "A" students in intro courses.

The second interview is for a Research Aide position for the Department of Public Health Sciences. I'd have to take surveys outdoors and communicate with Mexican agricultural workers. Hmm... sounds pretty interesting, reminds me of the book we read in Honors English, Under the Feet of Jesus. Estrella, what a hot name.

His bedroom light turned on last nite -- the first time all summer. Suddenly I got really happy like a school girl, then seconds later I realized that its just a guest visiting his housemate. I wish I didn't miss him. It just makes me feel foolish when I do. Like a fucking Ashanti song. Gross... Ashanti...

I miss my former companion and best friend, but I don't have the guts to reach out and just become friends.

Current distractants: organic chemistry, the gym, cooking, downloading, my boob is officially normal again, and my new(er) car:

Its still un-named, any suggestions?

While browsing thru Irish names for our new green '95 BMW, I found out "Ciara" means saint or dark in Celtic. So a dark saint is our reigning princess of dirty south r&b.

Speaking of names, how do ppl with the last name "Hitler" feel about having their name synonymous with evil? To hear your surname constantly mentioned in that fashion must be annoying as hell. What about anybody with another eternally known last name like Ghandi or Da Vinci?

My Major, Biological Sciences B.S., is perhaps the most popular undergraduate major at UCD. Its no coincedence that the great majority of my friends also major in this. The upside is meeting many new faces and taking a lot of classes with friends. The downside is... taking a lot of classes with friends.

Sharing lab information and helping them understand is fine. The problem is the competition. I'll admit, I am a bit competitive when it comes to tests, grades, being the first out of lab, working out, random hobbies, and almost any menial thing that I attempt. This quiet "finish first" mentality usually stays in my head, where no one else is aware that I'm racing them.

Unfortunately, my friends caught on. They found out my study tactics, my grade on last week's "murderous" midterm, and my work out approach (competing without them knowing!). They used to think that I was a study whore, nerding it up everyday. Lie! I study less than them. If studying were a race, I do bursts of sprints while everyone else is doing cross country. Anyways, now I'm taking a lot of crap for doing well while everyone else isn't. All this back talk and attitude. What gives?

I'm gonna take more classes next quarter to be ahead again. Then I'd be a lecture hall loner again and won't have to compete against my friends.

Melting . . .

Thursday, July 14, 2005

Its been 100+ degrees everyday this week and will continue like that next week.

Boob update: Today's ultrasound revealed no strange lump that needs to be removed by surgery. It still needs to be confirmed by my doctors. Hopefully all the antibiotics sucked the infection/lump dry.

Celebrating by running some more and studying biology. No more slacking off. I seriously need to take this damn bio test to finally start training to become an official school tutor. My wallet and college resume' really need it.

Aced the O-chem midterm, got out 3 hours early from chem lab, my mom came up and dropped off dim sum, ran a few miles, and Lyle cooked me a delicious dinner. All in all, a good day.

Its like suddenly... chemistry makes sense. One day my mind relaxed for a bit, looked at all those structures, electrons, arrows, and it all came together. Sorta like a Magic Eye puzzle. Didn't see it earlier, but once I saw it, I couldn't stop seeing it.

Just what I needed: HIVES!

It just keeps getting better and better. I think I'm allergic to my antibiotics.

Yea, I have a life. Why are former HS classmates surprised to find out that I'm more than a brain? People who express intellect and opinions like to go out and have fun, too. And they HAVE been going out and having fun. Its nothing new.

At last night's party, I bumped into some old HS folks. They had the impression that I was only a smart, well-rounded, logical girl. In other words: asexual and boring. Actually, if you have ever been my friend, you'd probably have a more colorful description of me. Why are smart people equated to uninteresting and lifeless?

High school was fun, but I am extremely glad that I'm out of there. If mischief, drinking, partying, smoking, and sex were limited to those with hot bodies and better things to do than study, than college would be known as one boring place that nobody wants to go to.

4 Terrorist bombs ripped through London's subway and transportation system during this morning's rush hour, killing 40 people and injuring at least 700 others. Just regular folks taking the trains to work. So all of Europe is now in high security, and of course America chimed in too.

LA is doing its part by putting more police on patrol in its defunct subway stations, using nifty $5000 Segways. Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Update on the boob: its looking fine, you guys. Looks like all those antibiotics and drugs are reducing the lump, so there's no more lump. I still have to get an ultrasound of it to be sure of what's going on and how the docs want to handle it.

Happy 229th America! In celebration of this momentous event, I'm currently reading:

I broke the news about my boob infection and possible surgery to my mom. She has been freaking out since then. She keeps asking me if its cancer. Bahhh! Of course I let my doctors know my family history and as a bio major I understand what's going on. A bacterial infection that causes an absyss is totally different than a faulty DNA repair system that mutates into uncontrollable cell growth.

Just get this thing over with and try not to think to deep into it. If I do have to get surgery I hope to recover quick, this means continuing my daily workout, diet, and naps. Hopefully all becomes well -- I never needed to go to the hospital for my own health. Trying to look at it with logic learned from all my biology classes and not superstitious beliefs of fate.
